Session Details
Velox Wave and Accelerators

Orri Erling
Co-creator of Velox & Software Engineer at Meta
NeuroBlade’s SPU Accelerates Velox by 10x
NeuroBlade collaborates with the Velox community to integrate its SPU (SQL Processing Unit), marking the first purpose-built acceleration solution for Velox, and achieving a 10x increase in computational speed and efficiency. This session will explore how this enables performance when examined through benchmarks. Attendees will be introduced to the integration of NeuroBlade’s DAXL (Data Analytics Acceleration) Framework which provides a high-level abstraction of the hardware and simplifies integration. Krishna Maheshwari will discuss the substantial benefits of hardware-accelerated analytics, demonstrating its potential to unlock innovative business opportunities.

Krishna Maheshwari
CPO at Neuroblade
Velox: Offloading work to accelerators
Velox pipeline performance is limited by the available compute. The talk provides an overview of common bottlenecks observed in benchmarks such as TPCH, briefly describes the kinds of parallelism accelerators are capable of, and provides a brief overview of ways an accelerator may be applied to help, as well as some of the challenges in this space.

Sergei Lewis
Principal Member of Technical Staff at Rivos
Theseus: A composable, distributed, hardware agnostic processing engine
Theseus is a composable, scalable, distributed high performance data analytics engine. This talk is about how the GPU accelerator native engine is now hardware agnostic, by leveraging Velox as a CPU backend.

William Malpica
Distinguished Engineer & Co-Founder at Voltron Data

Amin Aramoon, PhD
Software Developer at Voltron Data
Nimble – A New Columnar File Format
In this talk, we will introduce Nimble, a new columnar file format developed by Meta, formerly known as Alpha. We will discuss the reasons for designing a new file format and provide a glimpse into its inner workings.

Yoav Helfman
Software Engineer at Meta
Velox Technical Governance
In this talk, we will present the new technical governance model which will be implementing in Velox, discussing its rationale, design principles, and next steps.

Masha Basmanova
Co-creator of Velox & Software Engineer at Meta

Pedro Pedreira,
Velox Lead & Software Engineer at Meta
Velox I/O Optimizations
This talk covers some of the optimization implemented in Velox to maximize I/O throughput and hide I/O latency.

Deepak Majeti
Software Engineer at IBM
Safeguarding Against OOM Kills: Strategies for Compute-Efficient Systems
Compute resources becoming dear and the ever-increasing demand for efficiency necessitate a fundamental shift in how we approach computing. Our reliance on in-memory systems has led to an unsustainable practice: overprovisioning infrastructure to avoid memory-related crashes (OOM kills). To achieve truly scalable and cost-effective computing, we must unlock the full potential of underutilized CPUs and GPUs and build OOM-proof systems that are less memory-intensive, ultimately reducing our reliance on expensive infrastructure.

Vikram Joshi
Founder, President & CTO at ComputeAI
Debugging Velox
This hands-on demo will present some of the features available to debug performance and better understand resource utilization of Velox applications.

Deepak Majeti
Software Engineer at IBM
